This is the third topic in the ‘Habits that Improve Your Focus’ series. You can find the first one here and the second one here.
The third one is practice and repetition.
I have come to a realization that deliberate practice and incremental improvement are the only paths to mastery.
Think about the time when you first took a corporate job. You probably lacked most skills needed to succeed in your role, and look at you today. The only way you developed those skills and got here is through deliberate practice and solving real-world challenges.
Focus is no different. We’ve been conditioned to distractions for way too long now and a deliberate practice of focus and deep work is how we can change that.
Start by 15 mins of focused work sessions. No phones (airplane mode ideally) and no other windows or tabs. Keep a time for 15 mins and just work on one task that needs to be done.
Do that daily and then graduate to 25 mins (Classic Pomodoro) and increase the frequency of sessions.
You will fail multiple times in the process and that’s okay. Continue practicing the skill and you will eventually get better at it.
Article of the week
Some amazing examples. I especially liked the second one - Quitting while you’re ahead or at least before you’ve had too much.
Sometimes, it’s better to leave opportunities on the table. You’ll realize that you will end up with more.
A great read.
Have a focused week ahead. See you next Sunday.
