Spending time alone has become a rarity today.
If not with people, we are with our phones and with our social media connections. That’s not the same as being alone.
However, some of the most powerful ideas come to us when we are alone. It also helps us get comfortable with our thoughts and ourselves.
Something as simple as taking a 30 min walk without your phone can help you clear your thoughts and refresh your thinking. Try carrying a notebook with you and capturing everything that comes to mind. You’ll be amazed by the ideas our idle minds can generate.
While I have no data to prove this, I have also seen it improve my ability to focus and concentrate.
Beyond a point, however, loneliness can have some profound impact. This article elaborates on the research on this topic and provides some great insights.
Book of the week
Building a Second Brain - Tiago Forte
I have been following Tiago for a while now, and his concept of the second brain resonates very strongly with me.
At the core of it, this book talks about note-taking and how writing things down and taking notes can change your life trajectory.
Tiago details out methods and tools to get better at organizing and harnessing our knowledge management system. We don’t realize it, but we have a tremendous body of knowledge that we waste by not capturing it appropriately.
A must-read if you are a knowledge worker.
That’s it for today. Have a focused week ahead. See you next Sunday.
